WORKSHOP DATES SUMMER 2008 : Summer workshops are one week long : from Monday, July 21 to Sunday, July 27 from Monday, July 28 to Sunday, August 3 from Monday, August 4 to Sunday, August 10 from Monday, August 11 to Sunday, August 17 Availability : When a workshop is full, "FULL" appears next to the workshop. If you do not see any indication, this means there is still place available and you can register. Other dates are available at the 'Paris - Cityscape' Workshop. PRICE FOR ONE WEEK 1030 Euros (click here to see conversion in US dollars) Popular combination : 1 week at the Château + 1 week in Paris : 1450 Euros (instead of 1550 Euros) Price includes :  Art classes  Home-made French cuisine (all meals) with local wine.  Lodging in the Château Transportation is not included.

THE TEACHING Average time of art classes : 5 hours a day. The number of students is limited to 12. Teaching is adapted to the level of each student, from beginners to advanced students. Classes are taught in French and English.   PRIMARY AIM : Study of landscape in  drawing, oil painting or watercolour ; learn to observe ; self-discovery through nature and creation ; work on observation and imagination ; three dimensional drawing ; atmosphere, values, tone, light, colour. Work performed in different media : black&white, pastel, watercolour and oil paintings - according to your preference. SIDE BENEFITS : Enjoying a great vacation and art holiday in magnificent surroundings in pleasant company. (bring your musical instrument if you wish). Thursday afternoon is free to visit the famous chateaux of the Loire valley nearby and do some wine tasting if you wish.

THE  LIVING  SPACE
The Chateau has been refurbished to offer good comfort, single bedrooms. You must not expect to find waiters and grand furniture inside though.

You can get there by train from Paris-Austerlitz station at 9:20 a.m., arriving at Amboise at 11:20 a.m. From Amboise, a taxi will bring you to the Chateau. The workshop begins on Monday at noon and finishes on Sunday after lunch.

MATERIALS TO BRING

• 1 folding chair (camping type)
• 1 BH, 2B and 4B pencils
• 1 pencil sharpener
• 1 kneaded rubber art eraser
• 1 sketch notebook
  or
• 1 portfolio holder (size 10"x13", or 20"x26")
• 4 or 5 sheets of drawing paper the corresponding size and 4 clips
• Remember to bring rags to clean your brushes with

FOR THOSE WHO PAINT WITH WATERCOLORS

• 1 block (or sheets) of watercolor paper
• 1 box of watercolors
• 3 watercolor brushes of high quality and assorted sizes. Not only small brushes - at least one brush of this real size :

FOR THOSE WHO PAINT WITH OILS

• 4 to 5 canvasses for oil, size 6, 8, or 10
• 4 oil brushes (of hog's hair) in various sizes, according to your preference
• 1 small bottle of turpentine
• 1 small bottle of linseed oil (cooked or polymerized)
• 1 palette and 1 palette-knife
• Oil colours : 2 whites, 1 lemon yellow, 1 gold yellow, 1 ochre, 1 burnt Sienna, 1 natural or burnt umber, 1 vermillon red, 1 carmine red, 1 emerald green, 1 chrome green, 1 cobalt blue, 1 Prussian blue, 1 black
• 1 bar of soap

FOR THOSE WHO PAINT WITH ACRYLICS

• 4 to 5 canvas panels or boards size 6, 8, or 10, and/or canvas sheets or watercolor sheets (140lb/300gr minimum)
• 4 oil brushes (of hog's hair) in various sizes, according to your preference
• 1 palette and 1 palette-knife
• 1 small pot for water
• Acrylics colors : 1 white, 1 lemon yellow, 1 gold yellow, 1 ochre, 1 burnt Sienna, 1 natural or burnt umber, 1 vermillon red, 1 carmine red, 1 emerald green, 1 chrome green, 1 cobalt blue, 1 Prussian blue, 1 black

FOR THOSE WHO DRAW WITH PASTEL

• 1 block (or 10 sheets) of paper (white, mi-teintes and colored)
• 1 box of dry pastel of 24 coulors or more
• 1 fixative for pastel 

This is a minimum requirement.

OPTIONAL : 1 pen and 1 small bottle of China ink, black or sepia, charcoal, sanguine, 1 easel for landscape painting

COMPULSORY : Do not forget to bring your good humour, and your conviviality

P.S. : Basic art supplies will be made available on loan  for a supplementary 80 Euros fee for those who do not wish to bring their own. Please indicate this request upon the enrolment form.
